Lawrence County Release Meanings
A release closes one custody episode. It does not always mean that the person is free of every form of legal control. Someone may leave the Lawrence County Detention Center for the community on bond, after time served, or under a court order. Another person may begin probation. A third may be handed to the Tennessee Department of Correction, another county, a federal agency, or immigration authorities. The jail entry ends in each example, but only some are community releases.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department records the local booking and exit. The criminal court records the legal events behind many exits, such as bond, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or probation. TDOC keeps the state felony custody and supervision record. The Bureau of Prisons and ICE cover their own systems. That division matters because a missing current jail entry is only a clue. The next useful question is whether the person was released or transferred, followed by the recorded date, disposition, and receiving agency.
- Release
- The recorded end of physical custody at a facility.
- Discharge
- The end of a sentence or supervision obligation, not merely departure from a jail.
- Detainer
- A request or authority that can send a person to another custodian when local custody ends.
- Time served
- A disposition crediting enough time in custody to satisfy the custodial part of a sentence.
Note: A closed Lawrence booking can reflect transfer, so ask for the receiving agency before describing the person as released.
Lawrence County Release Types
The wording on the source record controls. Bond ends the current jail stay while the case continues. An own-recognizance or other court-ordered release depends on the order and any unmet hold. A dismissal, acquittal, or nolle prosequi can support release, but another case or detainer may still prevent a community exit. Probation and parole both place some people in the community, yet their legal paths differ. A transfer is continued custody, not release in the ordinary sense.
| Recorded event | What it means | Best next source |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or court order | Local physical custody ends, subject to other holds | Booking and the Lawrence criminal docket |
| Time served or sentence expiration | The custodial term has been credited or completed | Jail exit record and judgment |
| Probation | Court-ordered community supervision | Court docket, FOIL, and TDOC field office |
| Parole | Conditional release from a state prison term | FOIL, Board order, and TDOC release record |
| Transfer or detainer | Custody moves to another authority | Receiving agency or facility |
A Board parole grant does not prove that a person walked out. TDOC requires an approved release plan and completed processing. Likewise, a court event can precede the actual jail exit. For Lawrence County released inmates, Booking is the direct local source for the physical departure, and the legal record explains why it occurred.
Lawrence County Bond Release Checks
A bond-out ends physical custody at the Lawrence County Detention Center, but it does not end the criminal case. General Sessions reviews bonds, and the court docket may show the order or later conditions. Booking remains the source for the actual jail exit. The sheriff also links a Lawrence County list of eligible bondsmen, but the file is dated May 2019. It proves that an official local bond-information route existed at that date, not that every name remains eligible now. Confirm current status with Booking or the court before relying on the list. Then use the release record to separate the time of the bond order from the time the person actually left custody.
Note: The May 2019 bondsmen document needs a current check with Booking or the court before use.
Lawrence County Release Record Fields
A targeted request should identify both the person and the booking episode. Full name, aliases, date of birth, approximate booking range, case number, or booking number can prevent a same-name error. Ask for existing fields instead of asking staff to write a new explanation. Lawrence County does not publish a complete online release-field inventory, so the custodian must confirm what is held and what may lawfully be released.
| Requested field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Booking number and booking date | The exact local custody episode |
| Actual release date and time | When that Lawrence County booking ended |
| Release type or disposition | The recorded basis for the exit |
| Court or order number | The legal event tied to the release |
| Transfer destination | Whether another agency took custody |
| Booking photograph | The image tied to that booking, if releasable |
The release record differs from an arrest record. Admission fields describe who entered custody, when, through which agency, and on what charges. Release fields describe the end of that episode. A TDOC discharge or parole record is separate from the county file, just as a federal release belongs to BOP. The records can be read together, but one should not be relabeled as another.
Request Lawrence County Release Records
No dedicated sheriff request form, current copy-fee schedule, request email, or release-record retention schedule was found on the official pages reviewed. Contact the Sheriff’s administrative office at 240 West Gaines Street, Lawrenceburg, TN 38464, call 931-762-3626, or email the published sheriff contact. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Ask who serves as the current Public Records Request Coordinator and which delivery method the office accepts.
- Give the full name, aliases, date of birth when known, and an approximate booking date or case number.
- Request the booking sheet, actual release date and time, release type, transfer destination, and photograph as separately named existing records.
- Ask for inspection or an electronic copy, plus a fee estimate before any chargeable work begins.
- If a field is withheld or redacted, ask for the legal basis that applies to that part of the record.
- Compare the response with the criminal docket when the reason for release or transfer needs context.
The Tennessee Public Records Act generally gives Tennessee citizens inspection and copy rights, subject to exceptions and identification rules. Under the state Open Records Counsel explanation, a custodian who cannot promptly produce the record has seven business days to produce it, deny it in writing with a legal basis, or provide a reasonable time estimate. That is a response checkpoint, not a guaranteed production date.
Note: Seven business days governs the custodian's response framework; it does not guarantee that all requested records will be produced then.
Lawrence County Release Record Law
Tennessee Code Annotated §10-7-503 defines public records broadly and gives Tennessee citizens inspection and copy rights, subject to other law. Access is not absolute. Juvenile or confidential material, protected personal data, sealed or expunged records, and other exempt fields may be withheld or redacted. A useful request identifies the existing record and asks the custodian to state the legal basis for each withheld part. The agency does not have to create a new report to answer a broad question.
Expunction under TCA §40-32-101 is a legal process that can remove eligible public criminal records. Dismissal, acquittal, no true bill, release without charge, nolle prosequi, and some completed diversions may qualify under the statute. Some eligible convictions have waiting and completion rules, commonly five years for an eligible misdemeanor or Class E felony and ten years for an eligible Class C or D felony. Eligibility must be checked against the current law and case. The TBI expungement explanation is an official starting point. An order may change official public access, but it does not justify retrieving an old private copy to bypass that result.
Older Lawrence County Release Records
Lawrence County has a clear age-based routing split. The Lawrence County Archives holds permanent county material generally dating from 1818 through the mid-1990s. Newer records remain with the office that created them, such as the sheriff or Circuit Court Clerk. The Archives is at 2588 Highway 43 South in Leoma and can be reached at 931-852-4091 during weekday office hours.
Archive charges are specific to that office: 15 cents per paper page, one dollar for certification, and exact postage, while many emailed PDF or JPG scans are free. Those prices cannot be applied to a current sheriff request. Ask the current custodian for its own fee policy and estimate. This distinction prevents an old-record fallback from becoming an unsupported claim about present booking or photo fees.
Lawrence Release and Court Records
The courthouse and detention center sit next to each other, yet their records answer different questions. General Sessions handles misdemeanors, reviews bonds, and holds preliminary felony hearings. Circuit Court handles felony cases. Four circuit judges rotate within the 22nd Judicial District and return for probation or parole violation matters. That local structure makes the county docket useful when a jail entry vanishes.
Use the Lawrence County Online Court Records System, select Criminal, and search by case number or the person’s name. Look for bond, dismissal, plea, judgment, jail credit, probation, revocation, and later case events. A signed order still does not establish the physical exit time. Booking supplies that fact. The Circuit Court Clerk holds Circuit and General Sessions records at 240 West Gaines Street, NBU #12, and the published telephone is 931-762-4398.
The official Lawrence County court guide shows how local jurisdiction is divided. Its instructions help reconstruct the legal reason for an exit without mistaking a docket date for the release timestamp.
The captured court page supports the local routing path. It should be paired with the sheriff’s release record when the exact time or transfer destination matters.
Note: A court event explains legal authority, while Booking confirms the recorded time the Lawrence jail stay ended.
Released Lawrence Commissary Orders
The sheriff’s commissary policy documents one narrow release-triggered result. An order returned because the customer was released before delivery is refunded within two business days. That fact applies to the returned order described by the policy. It does not establish how all cash balances, personal property, clothing, identification, or medications are returned. Questions about other property should go directly to the jail.
Find Released Lawrence County Inmates
Start with the last known custodian. A local charge does not prove that the person remained at the county jail, and absence from a current channel does not prove release. Identity matching is equally important. Use a date of birth, middle name, alias, booking number, court case number, TDOC number, SID, or another public identifier before merging records.
- Call Lawrence County Booking at 931-766-4177. Ask whether the person remains physically held and, if not, request the recorded disposition and receiving agency.
- Inspect the official “Lawrence County Sheriff TN” app’s Jail / Inmate Info tile. Treat it as a lead because its public listing does not establish release fields or retention.
- Search the county criminal docket for the bond, order, judgment, sentence, probation, or revocation event behind the custody change.
- Use TDOC FOIL only when state felony custody or supervision is plausible. County bond and misdemeanor releases may never appear there.
- Check VINELink for a participating person and source, or use BOP and ICE tools only when those systems actually held the person.
- Request the booking and release record when online and telephone sources do not settle the date, type, or transfer.
Note: Match at least two reliable identifiers when common names or aliases could point to more than one person.
Lawrence County Recent Release Search
Lawrence County, Tennessee does not publish a verified browser-accessible 24-hour or 72-hour release feed. The sheriff website supplies facility and contact information, while the official app offers a Jail / Inmate Info route. Neither source reviewed documents a released tab, time window, update schedule, retention period, photo field, or release field. The absence of a public feed does not mean release records do not exist.
Search results can lead to a recent-release roster for Lawrence County, Missouri. It is the wrong jurisdiction and should not be used for a Tennessee person. The correct same-day fallback is Booking, then the sheriff app, the local court docket, and a targeted records request. The Lawrence County 24-Hour Release List page organizes that no-feed process for people checking who left today.
TDOC Search for Lawrence Releases
The Tennessee Department of Correction calls its public service Felony Offender Information Lookup, or FOIL. It covers people currently or formerly in TDOC felony custody or supervision. Search by last name, first name, race, and optional aliases, or use a TDOC ID or State ID. The CAPTCHA is case-sensitive. Match the result with identity details before opening the record.
| FOIL route | Use and limit |
|---|---|
| Name, race, aliases | Find candidates, then confirm identity |
| TDOC ID | Direct state offender identity search |
| State ID or SID | Alternate identifier route |
| Status and sentence detail | May show incarcerated, probation, parole, inactive, and release information |
Probation or parole usually means the person is outside prison but still under state supervision. Inactive is the stronger former-state-offender signal, yet the detail must be read in context. FOIL is not a same-day county jail list. A misdemeanor bond release or a case that never enters TDOC may not appear at all.
The official FOIL search interface displays the verified inputs.
This state interface is most useful after the facts point to TDOC. County Booking remains the first source for an ordinary Lawrence jail exit.
Note: FOIL covers state felony history, not every person released from the Lawrence County Detention Center.
Lawrence Release Supervision and Alerts
FOIL can show probation or parole status for the correct state offender. Lawrence County also has a local TDOC Community Supervision office in District 51 at 1004 Buffalo Road, Lawrenceburg, with telephone 931-766-1420. Use FOIL to identify the person and state number before asking the office for appropriate public verification. Probation is ordered by a court. Parole is conditional release from a prison sentence. Neither means the sentence has been discharged.
TDOC Victim Services links to VINELink and describes text, email, TTY, and automated telephone notifications. Select Tennessee, search by name or TDOC number, open Record Details, and confirm the source. Lawrence County jail participation must be verified in the live record. A no-result response can reflect spelling, alias, timing, transfer, or scope, so it is not proof of release.
Federal and ICE Lawrence Releases
Federal custody uses the BOP Inmate Locator. Search by federal number or by name with the available identity filters. A result reading Released or Not in BOP Custody means the person is no longer in BOP custody. It does not rule out another agency’s custody or federal supervised release. BOP release dates can also change after sentence recalculation.
ICE’s locator covers current detainees and, according to ICE resources, people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days. Search by A-number and country of birth, or by exact name, country of birth, and optional date of birth. A no-result may reflect release outside the window, transfer, removal, a mismatch, or a record beyond the system’s scope. After an ICE release, check-in duties are separate from immigration court dates. No official source places an ICE detention facility in Lawrence County.
Note: Each federal or immigration result is system-specific and may not reveal custody held by another authority.
Lawrence Release Status Comparison
Choose the source that owns the custody event. This keeps a local jail release, a state discharge, and a federal custody result from being treated as interchangeable records.
| Question | Best source | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Still at the county jail? | Lawrence Booking or jail | Physical presence, exit, or transfer |
| Why did the jail stay end? | Release record and criminal docket | Actual time, disposition, court event |
| In or out of state felony custody? | TDOC FOIL | Status, location, sentence, release information |
| Federal sentence ended? | BOP locator | Release Date and Location result |
| Recent ICE custody? | ICE ODLS | Current or recent system-specific result |
Lawrence County Release Facility
The Lawrence County Detention Center, also called the Lawrence County Jail, is the one verified detention facility in the county map. It opened in 2009, has 262 beds, holds men and women, and sits immediately behind the courthouse. The sheriff reports nursing staff around the clock. Capacity is not current population and does not support an annual release estimate.
A person leaving this jail may return to the community, start probation, transfer to TDOC or another county, or enter federal or immigration custody. Ask Booking for the actual disposition and destination. No separate municipal jail, state prison, federal prison, or ICE detention facility was found within Lawrence County, so outward transfers must be followed in the receiving system.
